Pilates Equipment

Pilates is an exercise method developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates (1880-1967) which uses specially designed equipment as well as traditional mat work. Joseph Pilates originally designed his equipment for people recovering from illness and injury. This equipment has been adapted and developed over the years for the benefit of everyone. Pilates’ equipment is based on spring resistance rather than weights.  That’s why Pilates equipment is completely different from the exercise machines that you might find in a gym and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels Joseph Pilates called his method “The Art of Contrology” which refers to the way that the method encourages the use of the mind to control the muscles.

"Ideally our muscles should obey our will. Reasonably our will should not be dominated by the reflex action of our muscles." Joseph  Pilates

The Reformer

The Reformer is designed with a moving carriage, springs, straps and an adjustable foot bar that permits exercisers to carry out exercises lying facing up, facing down, sitting, standing and kneeling.   It is used to perform over 100 different Pilates exercises.  We train our clients using the  Balanced Body 18" Studio Reformer, which is the smoothest Reformer in the world and is widely used in Pilates personal training studios and Physical Therapy studios due to it's accommodating 18" height.

Trap Table

The Trap Table (also referred to as the Cadillac) is a large apparatus with springs, poles, and trapeze. It was designed to address specific rehabilitative and alignment needs as well as enable deep stretching and symmetrical movement.

Chair and Sitting Box Riser

The Combo Chair stretches and stretches deep muscles that are not reached by more traditional techniques and equipment.  The soft padded split pedal allows for exercises that use rotational and reciprocal movement in the arms and legs.  The sitting box riser provides extra support for exercises on the Chair like swan or side lying abdominal work and assists in deeper stretching when placed at the end of the Trap Table.

Pilates Arc

The Pilates arc has a gradual curve on one side and steeper curve on the other making it versatile for different abilities and body types.  As a Spine Corrector it offers improved ergonomics, and it can be used on the Reformer to challenge the core and offers mobility challenges.  The Pilates Arc helps expecting moms continue exercising through pregnancy.
